teapigs – Iced Tea – don’t mind if I do

I’m a fan of real tea, I can’t say I’ve ever been that fussed to try Iced Tea – but teapigs thought I was missing out on something and sent me some different teas to try to change my opinion.

teapigsWho are teapigs?  The company was established in 2006 by a couple who were already working within the tea industry.  Their motto …

We believe in something pure and simple – no airs, no graces, just fine tea.

They use whole leaf tea, whole leaf herbs and whole leaf flowers to provide us with the best quality tea drinking experience.  Ok, so that sounds interesting, right?

Today seemed like the perfect day to try my first ever Iced Tea as the weather has been so lovely and I needed a change from my normal cup of tea.

I decided to try a Super Fruit Iced Tea – I liked the sound of the mixture of hibiscus, elderberries, currants, blackcurrants, cranberries and blueberries.

The first thing you notice is that teapigs use ‘tea temples‘ – a bio-degradable mesh bag.  The Tea Temples are also larger than your normal teabag so allow the full leaves to really infuse, giving us more flavour.

I popped my Super Fruits tea temple in a glass and covered with boiling water, and left to infuse for just over 3 minutes, I then topped up with cold water and added some of my reusable ice cubes. My Super Fruits Iced Tea was just calling out for some strawberries to go with it!  Who was I to refuse?

The verdict:  I was actually pleasantly surprised.  I don’t like ‘squash’, but I really enjoyed this drink, it was very refreshing on a hot day in June, and the good news is that each glass is less than 3 calories 🙂

Next to try will be Iced Green Tea with mint with cucumber and lemon ……
