A trip to a waterfowl sanctuary

Today Monkey and I picked up my eldest niece and off we went, wellies on foot to the Water Fowl Sanctuary and Children’s Farm to see what we could find.

We started off inside being introduced to some of the newest members of the sanctuary ….

Then off we went to explore outside.  We saw lots of ducks, geese, peacocks and peahens, loads of different breeds of chickens and cockerels, sheep, goats, pigs and little ponies and more besides.

It was very muddy so wellies for Monkey were a must, and off he went, happily exploring with us in tow.

There was a children’s play area and picnic benches (for better weather!) and animals everywhere you looked.

I felt that the whole place was a little ‘tired’ and in need of a tidy and freshen up.  There was limited information on the animals although you could see that at one time there had been lots of information areas.  Compared to other small farms we’ve visited this was definately lacking in the finishing touches but having said all that, Monkey had a great time and really enjoyed the experience. So, as far as he was concerned it was money well spent.  £4.00 per adults and £3.00 for children.

  2. It’s a shame that you found that it was a bit tired looking! It obviously didn’t deter Monkey from having a great time and these sites are a great introduction to farm animals for children. Thanks for linking up your farm fun to Country Kids.

    • Monkey did really enjoy it, and that’s the real point of any trip we take. Just a shame, you could see what the place could be like with a bit more TLC. Really enjoy #Country Kids, glad I found you 🙂

This is only round the corner from us (and I know the owner’s son who runs it), and embarrassingly we’ve never taken N. V poor. Everyone says it goes down well with young children so I should really find the time.

  5. Looks like you had a great time, Monkey must have had a ball! POD loves ducks, chickens and muddy puddles!
